Echo Chamber
Harare, Zimbabwe

'Echo Chamber' was a site-specific installation which questioned the legitimacy of legacy media; who and what gets to speak in reserved public spaces.

Shown during the inaugural ZICCA arts festival in Harare Zimbabwe, it comprised four walls of floor-to-ceiling lino-print and hand-painted fake news headlines and a looping video animation, and two woven baskets. I printed and paint ~100 'Eish-Metro' fictional newspaper headlines during the covid Lockdowns and restrictions as a hyperbolic satirical response to the intensity of media propaganda that I and many friends were experiencing at the time. I put some of these posters up around the city to question the legitimacy of legacy media by simply making my own and inserting them into public spaces usually reserved for corporate and state messaging.
